The Scheduled Commercial Date (SCD) defines the deadline by which a renewable energy project must commence commercial power supply. Adhering to the SCD is critical, as delays may lead to penalties, financial impacts, and loss of regulatory benefits. Timely project execution also supports India’s clean energy goals and investor confidence.
Renewable energy projects located in high-potential zones have faced delays due to mandatory protection measures for the Great Indian Bustard (GIB), a critically endangered species. As directed by the Hon’ble Supreme Court and environmental authorities, developers must implement steps such as undergrounding power lines, installing bird diverters, altering transmission routes, and obtaining additional approvals, all of which have affected project timelines.
Considering that these delays are beyond the control of project developers, the competent authority has granted an extension of the SCD. This relief ensures that developers are not penalized for complying with environmental mandates and reflects a balanced approach toward renewable energy development and wildlife conservation.
